Elektramusic is proud to invite Marije Baalman, an artist and researcher/developer working in the field of interactive sound art. Since 2010 she works as a freelance artist and developer from Amsterdam and works as a hardware engineer at STEIM. Her current research goes into the use of wireless networks for live performance (such as dance and music), installations and interactive environments.

She suggests during this concert three creations, « Code LiveCode Live », « Scrempler » and « Wezen ».

Code LiveCode Live (or livecode embodied / 2009-2014)
Livecoding performance with SuperCollider, using the laptop and the physical act of livecoding as the sole material.

The concept of this livecoding performance is to only use the sound of the typing on the keyboard of the laptop as the source material for the audio in the performance. Furthermore, the sensing devices embedded in the laptop (e.g. accelerometers, touchpad, trackpoint, the keyboard), and movements of the body, are made accessible and mapped (through livecoding) to the manipulation of the sound material. As such the performance of livecoding is influenced through its own side effects, transforming the code not only in the common logical, programmatical manner, but as an embodied interface of the machine on our lap.

Scrempler (work in progress / 2013-2014)
The Scrempler is an instrument for live sampling and manipulation; two piezo microphones pick up the vibrations of the top wooden plate; this signal is recorded into buffers, and analyzed. This analysis data, along with data from pressure sensors in the six corners of the instrument, manipulates the sampled sounds in realtime.

Wezen (work in progress / 2012-2014)

Wezen is a solo music-theatre work where I try to explore the relationship between theatrical gesture and musical instrument, between the body and the sonic world.
Gewording (Becoming) is the first performance version where the link between physical and sonic gesture is explored during a live performance, combining movement of the body and live coding.
